Lightly Spotlight

WHY
WE LOVE LIGHTLY

Firstly, being an Australian company is a very big tick. The designer at the helm of Lightly, Cindy-Lee Davies is a Perth native.
The colour palette of greens and nudes are very calming and the XL pieces, really add impact for larger plants in your home, instantly lifting your indoor plant game. Simple, clean lines for a curated home.

STYLING
TIPS

The wonderful thing about Lightly, is that planters can be used as vases as well as planters. This colour palette is a perfect match for Mud Australia ceramics, Bonnie and Neil linen and Marmoset Found ceramics. And they all happen to be Australian businesses.

Sand, Sorell, Sage and Juniper are so easy to incorporate into your home. Sand is a wonderful warm neutral that works well with plants or florals. Juniper and sage also really compliment plants if you need more colour.

We have curated a range of Chistmas trim, with blues, greys, spruce green, neutrals and metallics. Along with hundreds of beautiful gifts, complimentary custom Christmas wrapping, and all your entertaining essentials, Table Culture is the destination for a stress free, beautiful Christmas.

La Chamba // Cosy clay cookware for Winter recipes

Just in time for the cooler weather, La Chamba has arrived. This unique cookware and serving ware not only looks great, but also is perfectly suited to winter recipes. Think casseroles, soups, rice, roasting, baking, home made bread bread and serving.

Hand made in Columbia, the origins of this cookware can be traced back over 700 years to vases and pitchers found in archeological sites.

Unlike most other ceramic cookware, La Chamba has a natural clay glaze rather than a vitreous glaze. The porous nature of La Chamba is a distinctive characteristic allowing the cookware to retain heat and enhance food flavours. Pots are also ideal for serving food and even eating from directly.

La Chamba is traditionally moulded by hand from coarse dark grey clay and coated in a fine terracotta glaze. After drying in the sun, the surface is polished with semi-precious stones to give the cookware its natural patina. As you would expect, colours and shape variations are typical of a hand-crafted product.

We recommend the following in caring for you La Chamba. Prior to first use, clean with mild detergent, fill each piece 3/4 full with water and place in the oven for 30 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. This allows La Chamba items to seal. Wooden utensils are recommended to prevent scratching. Handwash with mild detergent. Dishwasher safe.

Drawing inspiration from artefacts from the Bronze age and before, Bison products re-interpret form so that they strike an intelligent balance between beauty and purpose. Table Culture are delighted to be carrying this brand, so here's our Bison brand profile!

BISON HOME: An iconic name in Australian Homewares

Just recently, Table Culture have re-introduced Bison Home back instore - a favourite amongst Aussies and expats alike! At the helm of the brand sits Creative Director Brian Trunks; an ancient history enthusiast whose training in Scandinavia and archaeological digs on the banks of the Euphrates has inspired his own line of covetable ceramics and glassware. These pieces - which possess a striking form and simple functionality - are designed right here in Australia, and are frequently seen on the tabletops of many homes around the world.

Drawing inspiration from artefacts from the Bronze age and before, Bison products re-interpret form so that they strike an intelligent balance between beauty and purpose. With a rich palette of colours to choose from, Bison ceramics work well independently, or coupled with pre-existing flatware to bring character and a sense of individual style to your table. It is no wonder that a number of Bison pieces have, over the years, become Australian design classics.

With a range that now includes striking glass vases and receptacles in exotic hues such as "Bermuda" and "Smoke", Trunks and his company is now making an impact with unique and enviable glassware which work in seamlessly with his ceramics.

Table Culture now celebrate this revered Australia manufacturer, and carry a large selection of Bison which you will not only want to adopt as your own, but is also ideal for gifting.

MUD Australia 'Style Your Summer' Event

MUD - now a globally recognised brand with stores in Australia, London and New York - has gone from strength to strength since 1994 when Shelley Simpson, MUD creator and Director, took her first steps in establishing the brand. It was one Christmas when a large family group had gathered around the table to eat, that Shelley identified the need for good quality lightweight fine porcelain pieces in tidy sizes and intelligent shapes. She then set out to source the best materials - in the case of MUD that is fine Limoges porcelain - and to design pieces both functional and minimalistic in form. Rather than applying coloured glazes to the fired forms, Shelley added pigment to the porcelain, ensuring a thorough even-ness of colour.

Today, MUD Australia is one of the market leaders in stunning, aspirational tableware.

On Thursday October 27th Table Culture had the honour and privilege of hosting Shelley and partner James Kirton in store for a night of bubbles, great food and excellent table-styling advice! Shelley invited our loyal MUD customers to watch as she styled a holiday tabletop with pieces in mist, bottle green, milk and pops of red. Addressing customer questions as she worked, Shelley gave insights into the reasoning behind the design of certain pieces, and explained how each piece is meticulously made by hand in their Sydney factory by skilled and experienced ceramicists.

As the 'French 75's' cocktails were coming hard and fast from James' deft hands, Shelley demonstrated how changing up just one or two pieces or colours could completely transform the landscape of your table. MUD is all about adding your own personality and flair to your table - it should be a reflection of who you are, and what you'd like to communicate.

All attendees were placed in a draw to win a gorgeous MUD XL Nest Bowl, and as the evening's festivities drew to a close, a winner was picked! Lucky lady Jane scooped the pool and went home with smiles and a new statement MUD piece for her home.

Each attendee left for the evening with a special MUD Australia gift in their goodie bag.

You can shop a selection of MUD products currently online by clicking here OR call the store on 93806233 to ask about current stock availability. And remember - you can place a special order for any shape in any of the 18 colours pictured below with Table Culture for delivery between 3-4 weeks.

More and more people have come to appreciate how scented candles can transform a space, but did you know that that candles require a few seconds care so that you get the best out of them? Here's how!

Scented Candles - How to Get the Best Out of Them

More and more people have come to appreciate how scent can transform a space, so scented candles offer by far the simplest method to perfume your home. But did you know that candles require a few seconds care so that you get the best out of them? Here's how!

First of all, when you bring a new scented candle home and light it for the first time, our most important tip is to allow the candle to burn until the molten wax touches all sides of the receptacle. That is; give the candle a good 1-3 hour burn until the pool of wax has spread evenly across the surface of the candle. This is a great step towards preventing your candle from sinking in the middle or 'burrowing' during future burns.

Secondly, it is super important to keep the wick trimmed to 6-8mm in length. After your first burn and before you light it every time thereafter, trim the wick back (carefully removing any flayed or puffy ends). This will give you an even burn, and keep the flame short. Remember, the taller the flame, the more smoke your candles will emit!

Lastly, if whilst burning your candle, you see the wick has curled to one side, take a long non-flammable object (usually the handle end of a teaspoon or pair of scissors will suffice), and gently correct the wick so that it stands upright. Doing this will prevent wax from pooling (and burning lower) on one side.

If you follow these simple suggestions, you will certainly improve the life of your scented candles! And - if you're looking for a wonderful selection to explore this spring / summer - Table Culture are now proudly stocking True Grace candles. True Grace are produced in the UK and have harnessed all the scents of a walled English garden! Using 100% natural wax and packaged in charming lidded zinc containers, they can be enjoyed anywhere! It seems we Aussies and our friends in the Great North have more in common than just our love of ABBA - we also adore smart design and functionality! Since 1888, Iittala has become a name synonymous with innovation and design... and 2016 celebrates the 80th Anniversary of this Finnish design classic!

Iittala's iconic Aalto vase turns 80!

Who'd have imagined that a few pencil lines drawn on parchment paper back in 1936 would one day become one of the world's most iconic pieces of glass art? On that day, one of Finland's most prominent architects Alvar Aalto single-handedly changed the course of Scandinavian design forever.

When Alvar Aalto (his surname also meaning 'wave' in Finnish) was asked to design and furnish the Savoy Hotel in Helsinki in 1936, his free-flowing scribble was put into production at Iittala, and the now-iconic Aalto vase was born! The shape was asymmetrical and wavy, and called for a mouth-blown process to achieve the desired result. The vase was exhibited at the World Fair in Paris in 1937, and ever since then, has become recognised internationally as an exceptional example of modern design.

Today, some 80 years later, the same mouth-blown process is used to manufacture the vase... every Aalto vase takes 7 craftsmen 30 hours to blow, polish and finish! Iittala produce the Aalto vase in many sizes and colours, and each year, the famed Finnish foundry revise their colour selection and present a new "colour of the year". These can either be a brand new shade, or a hue reprised from Iittala's vast archives.

If you'd like to bring some of Alvar Aalto's stunning modernist pieces into your home, you can shop the Iittala collection here.

Enjoyed with a simple lemon or lime wedge in a Collin's or High-ball is still preferred by many, but there are several ways you can spice things up and take your G&Ts to the next level. From glassware to garnishes - we've got you covered... when life gives you lemons - make a G&T!

Gin and Tonic - 6 Garnishes You Must Try!

With spring now in full swing, we have joyfully moved from hibernating with our Shiraz at home to enjoying those first few warm days and of course, enjoying the drink du jour - Gin and Tonic! The simple "G & T" has come a long way from its Colonial beginnings and is now broadly enjoyed and served by hosts and hipsters alike.

Enjoyed with a lemon or lime wedge in a simple Collin's or High-ball is still preferred by many, but there are several ways you can spice things up and take your G & Ts to the next level. From glassware to garnishes - we've got you covered.

Orange Marmalade Gin + Tonic - Use either a single or double measure of Gin (to taste), two small spoonful's of marmalade, a dash or two of lemon juice, fresh mint, elderflower tonic, plus a slice of fresh or dried orange. Serve in a Riedel Gin + Tonic Glass. Image and recipe: Riedel Australia

Cucumber and Rose - This combo syncs beautifully with Hendrick's gin and a regular tonic. The cucumber brings a great freshness and use rose petals or buds bring a subtle floral spice. We've served ours in a Riedel O Stemless Chardonnay Glass.

Capsicum, Basil and Chilli - Use this garnish with an regular tonic and Bull Dog gin or similar. A beautiful fresh combo with a bit of heat! We've served our in a Spiegelau Gin Balloon.

Mint and Strawberry - This garnish tastes beautiful with Beefeater Gin and an Elderflower Tonic. Fresh and fruity, this looks great served in a Riedel O Whisky Glass.

Lime and Ginger - This zesty, spicy garnish pairs beautifully with Tanquerey Gin and Indian Tonic Water and so refreshing! Served a traditional cut crystal style glass, shop similar styles here.

Rosemary and Black Pepper - This pairs brilliantly with Tanquerey gin and Indian Tonic Water. An earthy, spicy taste. We've got this in the stunning Italian made IVV Clear Highball Glass.

We hope we have inspired you to try some thing new in your approach to your Gin and Tonics! Remember, there are no rules anymore... serve, drink and do what you love and enjoy... CHEERS!
